Write for us
Fresh Match Journal welcomes clear, original pitches that help readers understand chess and enjoy following it. You do not need to write like a grandmaster; you do need a focused idea and a careful explanation.
What we welcome
Pitch explainers of a chess idea, pieces that unpack notation or match language, accounts of chess customs and history, and thoughtful ways to watch a game. A strong contribution makes one subject understandable without assuming specialist knowledge.
What makes a good pitch
Send a proposed title, a short summary of the central idea, the likely reader and why the subject deserves its own piece. Mention any sources or diagrams you expect to use, and flag uncertainty rather than presenting an unverified claim as settled.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please include a short introduction to your idea in the message. We review pitches for fit, clarity and originality; sending a proposal does not guarantee publication.
A game is richer when you can read its choices
We make chess language clear without flattening its character. Every board has room for curiosity, at any level of play.
